Downtown Whitby Dentistry is experienced in replacing your missing teeth. Losing a tooth can cause some stress but we would like to alleviate your worries.
We’ll help replace your tooth with titanium metal artificial root. It replaces the root of your natural tooth. The implant anchors and is attached to your new artificial tooth.
Dr. Jamshid Nematollahi is an experienced and trusted Whitby Dentist in replacing teeth. With distinction, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Western Ontario. With a kind approach and a gentle touch you know you are in good hands.
Are you in good health, have healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold the implant? If you don’t have enough bone, you could be a bone graft candidate. Together we’ll determine if a dental implant is the right choice for you.
We will carefully examine your mouth and x-rays of your head, jaw and teeth to ensure dental implants are the good decision for you. If it is, there will be two stages of surgery, your Whitby dentist will insert the implant beneath your gum tissue in your jawbone. As the tissue heals the implant will bond with the bone and gum. It can take several months to heal. Once healed Dr. Nematollahi can add an abutment, the piece that connects the tooth to the implant. Sometimes the implant and abutment are put in at the same time. Lastly an artificial replacement tooth is created and then attached to the abutment. It can take several appointments to properly fit the replacement tooth to the abutment.
When replacing more than one tooth it is considered a bridge. The implants and abutment are placed at each side of the bridge.
Although rare, dental implants act a lot like natural teeth. Therefore, we need to clean and floss them the same way you clean all of your teeth. We will show you how to clean your implants. Regular checkups at Downtown Whitby Dental ensure your implants do not become loose and that your bite is right!
Dental implants cost more than other types of tooth replacements and are not always covered by your dental plan. There is a one-time fee, unlike other procedures.
There are possible complications including bleeding, infection, numbness and injury to nearby muscles or sinus cavity. Sometimes the implant may not be successful because it didn’t bond to the bone.
